Day 1 Today you will fly to Gondar, and spend the morning visiting the 17th century Fasilides Castle. Following lunch a the famed 7 Sisters Restaurant, you will be driven up to the Simien Mountains National Park where you will overnight at the renowned Limalimo Lodge.
Day 2 Today you will visit the interior of the park. The day will be spent driving to varying points of interest, such as the Jimbar waterfall and the spectacular viewpoint at Chennek. It will be an excellent opportunity to experience the afro alpine habitat with its distinctive flora. There will be every possibility to catch glimpses of the local wildlife, such as troupes of Gelada monkeys, Walia Ibex and Lamemrgeyers.
For a second night, you will overnight at Limalimo Lodge.
Day 3 will be spent near to the lodge, with a morning hike in the nearby vicinity, to experience particularly attractive local viewpoints. An afternoon community home visit will allow you to experience a local coffee making ceremony, try local delicacies, and gain an insight into the lives of local community members.
For a third night, you will overnight at Limalimo Lodge.
Day 4 You will leave the Simien Mountains today and back to the city of Gondar to join the beginning of the Timket festivities. After lunch you will visit the Medhane Alem Church to join the start of the procession of the church ting the replica of the Arc of the Covenant to Fasilides baths in preparation for the festivities to come.
Day 5 Today there will be an early start (4:30am) and you will head to the Fasilides path for the main Timket mass and celebrations. A mixture of rituals and blessing and the reenactment of the baptism of Christ in the river Jordan. These will conclude spectacularly with youths jumping into the baths at around mid-day.
Day 6 Today, in the morning you will return to Faisilides baths for the celebration of St Michael’s day. In the afternoon, you will make your way to the resort town of Bahr Dar arriving late in the afternoon at the Kuriftu Resort ensuring that you are by the lake in time for sunset.
Day 7 After a leisurely start the day will be spent on a boat, visiting monasteries on the lakes scattered islands. The island monasteries are set in lush and attractive gardens with ample bird life and are of particular importance to the Christian Orthodox tradition.
On the way back, a detour to the source of the Nile should allow the viewing of hippos.
An evenings’ visit to a local culture house, will allow you to see the local dancing and poetry traditions.
For a second night, you will overnight at Kuriftu Resort.
Day 8 On this final day of your trip, there will be just enough time to visit the Nile Falls, grand, muddy brown falls in a lush landscape, in the morning, before checking out of the Kuriftu Resort and heading to the airport to catch your flight back to Addis Ababa.
